In Edward Albee's one-act play The Zoo Story, a wealthy, conventional man named Peter is interrupted on a Central Park bench by a desperate, isolated stranger named Jerry.

The Dumb Waiter is a one-act absurdist tragicomedy by Harold Pinter about two hitmen, Ben and Gus, who are trapped in a dingy basement room awaiting orders from their mysterious employer.

But the double bill that opens the St. Louis Actors' Studio season is a rare and brilliant exception.The overpowering human need to connect, to make a difference to one another, flows through Edward Albee’s “The Zoo Story.” Aside from a deep understanding of Albee’s debut work (written in 1958), this production adds another layer to it.
